Wednesday 8 July 2020

It's Wednesday, she's gone to market and I'm in the garden...

White Currants, the "Champagne" of berry fruit. One short sortée gained me five litres of juicy goodness. I will pick more come morning, best do it in the cool the berries stay fresh for longer.

Curly Kale ,a swale at the base of climbing beans creates shade that slows down the evapouration of the water. Cool.

Swiss Chard, I love this leaf. Reinforcing my Magnesium level, fresh ground pepper lemon juice and some finely chopped garlic, a great way to take the medicine.

The onions have started to turn over, avoid watering the bed to discourage fungus.

Poor photo of a tangle of green,  tomatoes are swelling.

Last of the gooseberries, morish munching...

The Mirabelle plums are almost ripe. The space around the tree is covered with a soft mulch of chopped hay then topped with straw . The first harvest will be shaken of the tree, the mulch prevents bruising the fruit.

Hollyhock, the sky is the limit.

 A view from the Cool...

I can't fit the size of the crop on the screen,WhiteCurrants will become jelly, syrop,  muffins maybe. We have maybe fifteen more litres to pick. Some are left to air dry, good in biscuits. They will be in the kitchen before lunch. Divine source of Vitamin C.
