Fortune Favours the Brave...

It doesn't take long before the investment of a little work starts paying a dividend... A modest beginning in the new field started late  in the season.  My first visit to Anne-Sophie's "start up" project.  It makes more sense than screaming abuse at the government or pulling down statues. beats hands down, queuing for aid at the charity food banks, or waiting for markets and shops to reopen.
Independent autonamous self determined initiative, voluntary communitarian action is an encouragement to others. There is space enough here for more families to "have a go" during these crisis ridden times, however, a permanent commitment to the common cause of an agrarian rennaissance  is essential.  Domestic horticulture  over agribusiness. We are happy to assist any who lack the experience or self confidence to make a start.

Fallow ground, newly broken, fed on nothing but the grass roots and mulched with the hay.

Our method works better than waiting for the cheque in the post. Sweetcorn coco beans ,a nice little crop of salad, sunflowers and other good stuff, I can't remember what.  It's a small patch but it illustrates a point.

This last week has been wet , onions planted late have started to pick up. The bulbs have started to swell at last. The ground is mulched with hay to keep the moisture in the ground, shading roots from the heat of the sun.  "Roots in the cool, heads in the sun." A good maxim to follow.

Potatoes pioneered this little square. The newly cultivated earth is now aerated and weed free, . The soil level is sixinches higher perfect for carrots.  Peas in flower  bottom left.

The late potatoes look healthy enough. A great comfort over the winter. Avoiding whinging protests around the dining table."Shut your mouth and chew your food."

Mudskool students get a "heads up" in the never ending learning curve. Happy helpers enjoy their lessons. It's not academic.

That's not a potato...

That's a potato...
